Free, and staying free

Donate.

Searxly earns nothing from you — no ads, no trackers, no data to sell. If it's useful, chip in what it's worth.

Or give any amount you like

One-off. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel later. Payments go through Stripe — Searxly never sees your card, and there's no payment code anywhere on this site.

Where it goes

Searxly costs more to run than it earns.

Advertising, a default-search deal, or your data — those are the three ways a browser normally pays for itself, and all three are ruled out here on purpose. What's left is this list.

Apple

The Apple Developer Program, $99 a year. Without it the app can't be signed, and macOS refuses to open it.

Search servers

The hosted SearXNG instance iPhone searches run through. On a Mac, search runs on your own machine and costs nothing to host — on iPhone it can't.

This site

Hosting, the support desk and its EU database, and the email that carries licence keys and ticket replies.

Domains

searxly.app and everything under it, renewed yearly.

Devices

The Mac it's built on and the hardware it's tested against. One machine isn't testing.

Time

The biggest cost, billed to nobody. This page won't recover it — but a cost list that pretends the hours were free would be a dishonest one.

Before you give

Three things to be clear about.

It buys you nothing.

No perks, no badge, no supporter tier, no priority support. The moment a donation buys something it's a purchase, and Searxly becomes a browser where the people who paid get the good version. Everyone gets the same app.

It isn't tax-deductible.

Searxly is one developer's project, not a registered charity or approved non-profit. What Stripe sends you is a payment receipt and nothing more. Closer to buying someone a round than to a charitable gift.

And if you're unsure, don't.

The app is free, it stays free, and nothing about it changes if you close this tab. Money is better spent on rent than on software that already works.

Costs nothing

Or help without paying.

  • Tell one person

No ads, no marketing budget — Searxly goes exactly as far as people carry it.

  • Read the source

It's open. "Trust us" is the weakest claim in software.

  • Report the bug you hit

A reproducible report is worth real money here. Open a ticket — it comes straight to me.

  • Fix a translation

Four languages, one person who doesn't speak four languages well. Tell me which sentence is wrong.

Would rather get something for your money? Searxly Maximum is a one-off licence for the locked-down edition, and it helps just as much.
