Biometric Data Policy

Biometric Data Policy.

We use device biometrics only for local authentication. Your biometric data never leaves your Mac or iPhone.

Last updated: July 2026 · This policy explains exactly when and how biometric authentication is used.

1. What biometrics we use

Searxly can use the following system-provided biometric features:

  • Face ID / Touch ID(iPhone & iPad)
  • Touch ID (Mac with Touch Bar or external reader)
  • Secure Enclave / Apple silicon biometrics (Mac)

2. Where biometrics are used

  • Unlocking the app when App Lock is enabled
  • Authorizing sensitive actions in the built-in wallet (sending, swapping, viewing seed phrase)
  • Confirming panic-wipe or other destructive actions
  • Optional quick access to saved passwords or passkeys

3. How it actually works (on-device only)

All biometric matching is performed by Apple's Secure Enclave and the operating system. Searxly:

  • Never receives or stores your actual fingerprint, face map, or iris data
  • Only receives a success/failure result from the OS after you authenticate
  • Does not send any biometric information to Searxly servers or any third party
  • Does not use biometrics for identification across devices or for advertising

4. What is stored on your device

When you enable biometric unlock, the app simply asks the system to protect a local encryption key. The key itself is sealed inside the Secure Enclave. If you disable biometrics or delete the app, the protected data is no longer accessible via that method.

5. You are always in control

  • Biometric unlock is off by default for most features
  • You can turn it on or off at any time in Settings
  • You can always fall back to a strong passcode or password
  • In Searxly Maximum, additional protections limit when biometrics can be used

6. No cloud, no sharing

Searxly does not have accounts. There is no way for us — or anyone else — to access your biometric templates or link them to your identity. Biometric data never leaves the hardware you own.

7. Changes

If we ever expand biometric usage, we will update this page and clearly notify users. Questions? Reach us at privacy@searxly.app.
